2023 Purina Award Winner
This is an annual award honoring North America’s top winning field trial herding dog from trials held throughout the year. The owner of the winning dog will receive an oil painting of their dog, a cash prize of $1,000.00 ($2,000.00 if they are an active Purina Pro Club member) and a year’s supply of Pro Plan dog food for the dog.
Points are awarded for the team’s top five finishes in trials during the trial season plus points based upon the team’s placing at the USBCHA National Sheepdog Finals.
2023 Award winners are Faansie Basson and Finn
Finn is a 6-year-old Border Collie and the 2023 Purina “Dog of the Year.” Both of Finn’s parents were from Wales. His father is Tan Hill Glen, an excellent sire who has bred many fine working dogs. Finn has an excellent disposition off the field and really likes people. On the field he is very focused and a really good listener with great feel on sheep. Like many other dogs, Finn missed his Nursery year because of Covid, but his training has continued. Finn traveled to Ireland in 2023 to compete as part of the U.S. World Team. Finn and Faansie are honored to have won the Purina Dog of the Year award and look forward to continuing their competitive journey in the coming years.
