As most of you are probably aware of by now, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) will be implementing new restrictions on the movement of dogs into the United States effective August 1st 2024.
These new regulations will prohibit the importation or re-entry of any dog under six months of age, will require all dogs entering the United States to be microchipped, and will require new paperwork to verify rabies vaccination status.
There will not be a restriction on the number of dogs you can bring into the United States from countries with low rabies prevalence (includes Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, western Europe).
We are trying to gather as much factual information as we can, and once we have information verified by our member veterinarians, we will post it here along with links to resources.
We will also work on an approach to work with the CDC, other levels of government, and other organizations to present the effects this may have on our members and on the livestock industry in the United States. Hopefully, we can provide you all with some resources that you can use to approach your representatives in Congress to make your concerns known.
