In response to feedback from many people in the livestock industry, members of the public (including many of you who reached out to your representatives), other dog groups, and ourselves, the CDC has relaxed their rules on importing dogs from countries where rabies has a low incidence.
As of August 1st 2025 and through April 30th 2025, the only documentation required for importing a dog into the United States, or re-entering the United States with a dog is the CDC Dog Import form which can be completed online by the importer (that’s you if it’s your dog). Instructions on how to complete the form are here.
Once you complete the form, you will receive a receipt which is good for entry or re-entry into the USA for up to six months.
This is good news and we’ll continue to lobby to have this change made permanent and to possibly get the ban on importing dogs < six months of age lifted.
