Jamie Spring

Nominated by Bob Johnson

I ranch in western South Dakota with my husband, Lee, and our two young daughters. We are a commercial cow/calf and fine-wool range ewe operation and use our dogs in our daily management of the ranch. Not only do I love using these incredible dogs day to day, but I find such joy watching my girls form partnerships with them and begin to work with them as well.

Along with ranch work, I began trialing twelve years ago. My trialing is limited due to ranch and family obligations, and yet I have competed in the National Sheepdog Finals in Nursery and Open. Two of my most treasured awards have been the Shining Star at Meeker in 2014 and the Pete Carmichael Memorial at the Black Hills Stock Show in 2016. I have won two international course double lifts in the last three years, along with the Wyoming Winter Series Open Champion in 2017 and the Overall Open at L&M SDT in 2016. I have won Open sheepdog trials with four home-raised and trained dogs.

I judged my first cattle dog trial ten years ago and have continued to judge both cattle and sheep dog trials; both arena and field trials. We also host two field trials annually on our ranch and have for ten years. As a judge and trial host, I strive to be honest, fair, respectful and always keep stockmanship at the forefront. It has been my honor to serve as an ABCA Director. I am currently serving my second term, this year as Vice President.

It is from both my ranching way of life and trialing that I see what an enormous responsibility we have to have protect and improve the working Border Collie. These dogs are at the heart of my life and have given me and my family so much. It would be a privilege to continue to serve the breed in the capacity of judging the National Cattledog Finals. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions for me.
